Introduction St Helens is a metropolitan borough of Merseyside, England situated between the metropolitan boroughs of Knowsley and Wigan. It is 18 miles east of Liverpool and 24 miles northwest of Manchester. History and Culture The history of St Helens dates back to mediaeval times; in 1246 King Henry III granted St Helens a charter to hold a weekly market and fair.
