Located at the heart of London's West End, Regent Street (named after George, the Prince Regent - later George IV) is one of the world's most prestigious lifestyle destinations, famous for its flagship stores and international brands. The street runs for approximately 0.8 miles (1.3 km) from a junction with Charles II Street as a continuation of Waterloo Place in St James's at the southern end, through Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus, Langham Place and Portland Place, which continues the route to The Regent's Park.

Broadcasting House, used by the BBC since 1932, is immediately north of the top end of Regent Street, while Cafe Royal, the venerable institution of London high society, including Oscar Wilde, is located in the Quadrant. Veeraswamy, London's oldest Indian restaurant, has been on Regent Street since 1926.

The street is known for its flagship retail stores, including Liberty, the Apple Store, Aquascutum, Watches of Switzerland, and Hamleys. The University of Westminster (formerly as the Royal Polytechnic Institution) has been based on Regent Street since 1838.

Nearby tube stations are Charing Cross, Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus (one of the busiest underground stations in London). Several bus routes also serve Regent Street.

Regent Street has always been culturally relevant, having been mentioned in Charles Dickens' Nicholas Nickleby (the character Lord Frederick Verisopht lived in an apartment there). The Langham Hotel on Regent Street is also mentioned in several of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories and offshooting Heddon Street was the location for the cover photography for David Bowie's 1972 album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
