More About Corwen
Corwen - Corwen is a town, community and electoral ward in the county of Denbighshire in Wales it was previously part of the county of Merioneth. Corwen stands on the banks of the River Dee beneath the Berwyn mountains. The town is situated 10 miles 16 km west of Llangollen and 13 miles 21 km south of Ruthin. At the 2001 Census, Corwen had a population of 2,398, reducing to 2,325 at the 2011 census. The community includes the villages of Carrog and Glyndyfrdwy. The built-up area according to Nomis was 477 but does not include the estate of Clawdd Poncen. Including Clawdd Poncen the total is 777.
Denbigh, Ruthin and Corwen Railway - The Denbigh, Ruthin and Corwen Railway was a standard gauge railway line that connected Corwen with Denbigh via Ruthin in North Wales.%0AThe line was promoted independently as part of rivalry between the London and North Western Railway and the Great Western Railway for access to Rhyl. It opened in stages from 1862 to 1865, and was worked by the LNWR, and vested in that company in 1879.%0AThe line was never busy, serving a rural community, and it was closed to passenger traffic in 1962, and completely in 1965.
Corwen railway station - Corwen railway station was a railway station on the Ruabon to Barmouth Line, located in the town of Corwen in Denbighshire, Wales.
Ruabon%E2%80%93Barmouth line - The Ruabon%E2%80%93Barmouth line was a standard-gauge line owned by the Great Western Railway across the north of Wales which connected Ruabon, in the east, with Barmouth on the west coast.
Llangollen Railway - The Llangollen Railway Welsh: Rheilffordd Llangollen is a volunteer-run heritage railway in Denbighshire, North Wales, which operates between Llangollen and Corwen. The standard gauge line, which is 10 miles 16 km long, runs on part of the former Ruabon - Barmouth GWR route that closed in 1965. It operates daily services in the summer as well as weekends throughout the winter months, using a variety of mainly ex-GWR steam locomotives as well as several diesel engines and diesel multiple units.%0AA 2 1%E2%81%842 miles 4 km extension of the railway has been built to complete the line to Corwen.
