More About Accrington

Accrington is a town in the borough of Hyndburn in Lancashire, England. It lies 3.2 miles east of Blackburn, 4.2 miles west of Burnley and 8.9 miles north east of Manchester. Accrington has a population of around 35,355 as of 2018, making it the 21st largest town in the United Kingdom by population.

The history of Accrington and its connection to business, technology, design, commerce, entrepreneurship and investment dates back to the late 18th century.

Accrington has been supplying the world with top-quality cotton cloth since 1838. It is one of the most famous cotton-making districts in the country, producing fabrics for famous brands such as Marks and Spencer, Laura Ashley, Armani and Dior. The presence of textile manufacturers has been a mainstay of the Accrington economy for decades.

Alongside this longstanding tradition, Accrington is rapidly becoming an important centre for the emerging technologies and business opportunities associated with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The town is one of the few in the UK that is experiencing a revival of industrial activity and is increasingly becoming a hotspot for tech start-ups and entrepreneurs.

The most successful tech start-up in Accrington is Computers Now, a computer and consumer electronics retailer which began operation in 2015. The company has grown rapidly, having a turnover of over £10 million in 2019 and opening multiple stores in cities such as London, Manchester and Birmingham.

In addition to being a centre for business and technology, Accrington is also home to a vibrant design and creative community. The town is home to a number of creative agencies, such as Fin Design & Marketing and Packlings, which offer a range of services from website and print design to marketing and social media management. The town has also become home to a growing number of visual and digital design freelancers, illustrating the increasing demand for these services.

The presence of a strong business and technology community has been an important factor in the growth of Accrington's design industry. Design agencies such as Alpha Design and Bright Ideas Creative are thriving and providing services to clients in a range of industries.

Accrington is also emerging as an important hub for commerce, with numerous businesses based in the town offering products and services in a range of sectors. Accrington Business Centre provides a comprehensive range of comprehensive services such as advice, training and meeting rooms. The centre also provides support for start-ups and entrepreneurs, helping them to gain the essential skills and resources needed to succeed in business.

Moreover, Accrington is becoming a preferred destination for investors, with numerous enterprise and seed funding programs being launched by local businesses and organisations. The town also hosts regular investment events, such as the larger 'Investor in the North West' event held at Calder Vale's Queen's Square venue, which saw more than 200 investors in attendance in 2018.

The town is home to a diverse range of people of all ages, with a population of 35,355 as of 2018. Of those, 85% are aged 16-64, 63.3% of whom are in professional and managerial roles, higher than the national average of 57.3%. The town is also ethnically diverse, with 93.7% of residents being White British and 6.3% having mixed/ multiple ethnic backgrounds.

Living costs in Accrington are also much lower than in many other places in the UK, with an average house price of £101,788, compared to £237,711 in London. The town also has good transportation links, with regular trains to Manchester, Liverpool and London. It is also close to the M65 and M66 motorways.

All of this makes Accrington one of the most attractive places for businesses, entrepreneurs, investors and designers to set up and make a difference. The town's long established textile heritage and its rapidly growing business and technology sector provide an excellent platform for innovation and growth. With its strong sense of community, a growing creative sector, increasing numbers of tech start-ups and excellent transport links, Accrington is the perfect place to establish a business and unlock new opportunities.
