What is eProcurement?
eProcurement is a term to describe the process or purchasing goods or services by an electronic means - for example via transactional tools such as eMarketplaces with online payment tools such as Purchasing Card and GPC (Government Procurement Card) acquisition, eInvoicing and self-billing.
Why should I be interested?
The UK government has a directive to transform public sector procurement from a paper-based, ‘labour-intensive’ process to an efficient, eCommerce driven discipline and it is estimated that eProcurement systems are being used in almost a third of all central and local government departments.
Recent figures indicate that the value of UK-issued Purchasing Cards - One of the preferred payment methods for eProcurement - was £1.5 billion.
